BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Michael Lock is now retired from a career that began in teaching and later developed into child and educational psychology. He is currently starting a new chapter of service as a police chaplain.
Even in retirement, Michael has not lost interest in being useful. Much of what you will find on this site grows out of a simple aim: to offer “love in action” in a form that is practical, respectful, and usable—whatever your background, beliefs, or life story.
The bedrock of the site is a person-centred, Rogerian stance. In plain terms, it is the belief that people tend to grow best when they are met with genuine respect, steady warmth, and an effort to understand them from the inside out. When that kind of environment is present—whether in a family, a workplace, a school, or a community—confidence, responsibility, and kindness have more room to emerge. The materials here are intended to reflect that ethos: thoughtful rather than dogmatic, encouraging rather than prescriptive, and always oriented towards human dignity.
This website is a living project. New sections will be added over time, and existing pages will be refined as the work develops. Please do return from time to time to see what has been added and to draw on whatever is helpful.
