Centering Marble Meditation
Try this meditative technique using a perpetual motion marble run. Try focusing on the motion of the marbles and note what happens to the mind. Other thoughts may come and go; don't push them away but gently return your attention to the marble run. This will keep happening but that is normal. Just keep returning to the marble run as follows:
1. attend to the marbles
2. think other thoughts
3. realise you are not attending to the marbles
4. turn you attention back to the marbles.
Don't try to work out what is happening but notice that, by doing this every day, you begin to feel different in a very positive way. Ideally, do this for 21 days and, during that time, suspend judgement about how this is helping you. It is only appropriate to consider any benefits that the daily practice is bringing after 21 days have passed.
By the way, if something happens in your immediate environment while you are doing this, it is very easy to break away, do whatever you need to do, then return to the meditation later, when convenient.
