Global Leadership Judgement Indicator (G-LJI)
Global - Leadership Judgement Indicator (G-LJI)
The Global Leadership Judgement Indicator (G-LJI) is a highly advanced situational judgement test designed to assess one of the most critical determinants of leadership effectiveness: the quality of leadership judgement. Rather than measuring personality or preferred leadership style, the G-LJI focuses on a leader’s ability to recognise what different situations require and to select the most appropriate way to lead. In complex and fast-moving organisational environments, this capacity for discernment is central to sustained performance. Built on the Formula 4 Leadership model, the G-LJI distinguishes clearly between leadership preference and leadership judgement. It enables organisations to understand not only how leaders tend to behave, but how accurately they adapt their behaviour to the demands of the task, the people involved and the wider context.
A Next-Generation Situational Judgement Test
The G-LJI represents a significant development in SJT design. Each scenario is constructed as a theoretically defined leadership situation, allowing the most appropriate response to be derived from leadership principles rather than expert opinion alone.
The assessment comprises 16 realistic leadership scenarios, each with four behavioural response options representing alternative leadership approaches. Participants rate the appropriateness of every option, producing a nuanced profile of leadership reasoning rather than simplistic right or wrong answers. This structure closely mirrors real leadership decision making and delivers strong face validity with experienced leaders.
Exceptional Psychometric Strength
Situational judgement tests are often limited by modest reliability. The G-LJI addresses this directly through an innovative scoring methodology based on 96 underlying units of judgement. As a result, the instrument demonstrates exceptional psychometric quality for an SJT, including:
• overall leadership judgement reliability of α = .85
• strong construct validity grounded in contingency leadership theory
• convergence with the Leadership Judgement Indicator (LJI)
• evidence of criterion-related validity in assessment centre contexts
• high participant acceptance and low adverse impact
These properties place the G-LJI among the most psychometrically robust judgement-based leadership assessments currently available.
Designed for Global Leadership Contexts
The G-LJI was developed and validated using an international norm group of leaders drawn from 38 countries across six continents. Scenarios were written to be culturally neutral, free from organisational jargon and applicable across industries and geographies. This makes the G-LJI particularly well suited for multinational organisations, global talent programmes and senior leadership populations.
Typical Applications
The G-LJI is commonly used for:
• senior and high-potential leadership development
• global talent identification and succession planning
• assessment and development centres
• executive coaching and feedback
• leadership culture diagnostics
When used alongside the LJI and Coach on the Desktop, it provides a coherent pathway from assessment through to development.
Why the G-LJI
• Measures leadership judgement rather than personality
• Separates preference from effectiveness
• Exceptional reliability for a situational judgement test
• Strong theoretical foundation
• Proven global applicability
• Clear, actionable developmental insight
The Global Leadership Judgement Indicator offers organisations a rare combination of conceptual clarity, psychometric rigour and practical relevance, enabling leaders to develop the judgement required to lead effectively across complexity, uncertainty and change.
